Photographing a wedding is a great responsibility and privilege, as it is our job to capture the special moments that will be treasured for years to come. In December 2022, I had the opportunity to photograph the wedding of Kirsty and Dan at Gosfield Hall, and I am truly happy with the images we created.
On this December morning the sky was a clear, crisp blue, and the sun was shining brightly, casting a warm glow over the landscape. The venue was adorned with Christmas decorations, adding to the festive atmosphere of the day. Gosfield Hall itself always feels magnificent, with its grand architecture and elegant interior.
Kirsty and Dan were wonderful couple to work with, and it didn’t prove difficult to capture natural feeling photographs throughout their wedding day. They were surrounded by their family and friends, who had come from near and far to share in their joy.
As a photographer, my goal was to capture the essence of the day through my camera lens. I wanted to capture the emotions of the couple, their family and friends, as well as the beauty of the surroundings. I began by taking candid shots of the guests as they arrived, capturing their excitement and anticipation for the day ahead. I then moved on to capturing both the bride and groom’s preparations, and the building excitement.
The ceremony itself was a beautiful affair, with the couple exchanging vows and rings in front of their loved ones in Gosfield Hall’s Queen’s Gallery. After the ceremony, I always ensure to leave my clients to greet their guests, drink, eat canapes and feel relaxed, before I step in to arrange group photographs of family and friends, getting all the important groups, but as swiftly as possible.
Gosfield Hall has so many stunning photography locations that the most efficient way of taking photos around the house and grounds, is to have a route already decided, taking the happy couple from one location to the next in a circuit – otherwise you could easily spend an hour or two on these photographs, and no wedding has quite enough time to do that! The photos want to feel varied, and plentiful, but in reality the photographer may only have 20 -30 minutes for this part of the photography.
As the evening drew in, I kept an eye on the sky, and managed to take Kirsty & Dan out for photographs during the sunset, as well as photographs in the courtyard with Christmas trees and decorated archway.
In conclusion, photographing the wedding of Kirsty and Dan at Gosfield Hall around Christmas time was a truly magical experience. The clear blue skies, Christmas decorations, and the love that surrounded the couple made for a truly memorable occasion. I am grateful to have been a part of their special day and to have captured the moments that will be treasured for a lifetime.
