Laura & Anthony’s wedding at Leez Priory in Essex was a real treat to photograph! The entire day before the wedding and the morning of the wedding had seen non-stop rain, and I don’t mind admitting I was a little apprehensive about having the opportunities to take all the photographs I like to take around Leez. In fact, even in the photos of Anthony and his groomsmen you can see raindrops on their shoulders and in the air! But then it stopped. Around an hour from the ceremony it dried up, and stayed dry until everyone was in the wedding breakfast! So, apart from keeping the bride on the gravel and not the soft grass we actually managed to photograph my usual route all around the gorgeous grounds!
I’m always prepared for any weather of course, and carry a nice bridal umbrella along with all of my photography gear, but when it came to the last position of my ‘lap of the grounds’ we decided to take one with the umbrella purely as a prop after I’d carried it with us for the entire time!
Leez Priory is a very important wedding venue for me to photograph at, having worked there when I was younger and in training in the family photography business, then meeting my wife there, who was also staff, then getting married there myself! I’m so at home at Leez it’s second nature to decide where to take certain photos, where the light falls best, and to know just how the awesome venue staff do things. So I never run late, never step on toes by announcing things at the wrong times, and always feel I become a helpful calming influence on the day, helping everything to run smoothly!
After Laura & Anthony’s wedding breakfast we stayed nice and cosy indoors while watching the most amazing thunderstorm! Which by some miracle then dried up again in time for evening fireworks!
